Lattafa Mayar Cherry Intense: Cherry Preserve and Dark Cocoa
The Mayar name covers three very different Lattafa fragrances, and the red bottle is the indulgent one. Mayar Cherry Intense is a 2024 fruity gourmand built around a single idea — cooked cherry and cocoa — and it commits to it fully. A quick flash of strawberry and bergamot gets things moving, then thick, jammy cherry and dusty cacao take over, before vanilla, amber and patchouli settle it into something warm and slightly shadowy. If you want a cherry fragrance with weight and a darker edge, this is one of the most affordable places in the Lattafa perfumes range to find it.
The Scent Profile
Top — strawberry, bergamot. Brief and bright. Strawberry adds a sugary, candied fruitiness and bergamot a little citrus sparkle. This is the most divisive stage: some reviewers love the sweetness, others find it a touch synthetic. Either way, it moves on quickly.
Heart — cherry jam, cacao. The reason to buy it. The cherry here is cooked rather than fresh — sticky, dark and preserve-like — and cacao sits right beside it, dry and slightly bitter, keeping the sweetness in check. The balance between the two shifts from skin to skin: on some people the cocoa is obvious, on others the cherry dominates.
Base — vanilla, amber, patchouli. Vanilla softens, amber warms, and patchouli adds an earthy undertone that gives the drydown more depth than a straight dessert scent. It is the patchouli that makes Mayar Cherry Intense feel grown-up and wear comfortably on anyone.
How Mayar Cherry Intense Compares
Lattafa has not named an inspiration for this one. The community comparison that comes up most often on its Fragrantica page is YSL Black Opium Over Red, and Fragrantica reviewers often compare the two. They share a cherry, vanilla and patchouli backbone. The difference is significant, though: according to its Fragrantica listing, Over Red is built around coffee, black tea, jasmine and orange blossom. Mayar Cherry Intense has none of those — it goes cocoa and jam instead. Same neighbourhood, different house.
Reviewers also mention Tom Ford Lost Cherry, largely because it is the cherry fragrance everyone knows. We would not treat that as a close match: Lost Cherry is famous for its almond-and-liqueur character, and there is no almond in this pyramid. Lolita Lempicka and Montale Chocolate Greedy are also named occasionally, which tells you more about the cherry-and-cocoa mood than about any specific likeness.
Lattafa Perfumes is an independent UAE fragrance house with no affiliation to, licence from, or endorsement by Yves Saint Laurent, Tom Ford or any other brand named here. We mention them only to help you place the style.
Mayar Cherry Intense Performance & When To Wear
The Fragrantica reviews on this one are unusually polarised. Some wearers say the scent vanishes within minutes; others say it fills a room and survives on clothes for days. That spread is too wide to boil down to a single figure honestly, so we have not tried. What most reviewers do agree on is that clothing holds it far better than skin, and that it suits winter and night-time wear.
Treat it as a cold-weather and evening fragrance: dinners, dates, nights out. In warm weather the jammy sweetness can become a lot, and in an office one or two sprays is the sensible ceiling.
Who It’s For
Mayar Cherry Intense is for gourmand lovers who want cherry front and centre, with enough cocoa and patchouli to keep it from feeling juvenile. Fragrantica classes it as unisex, and the darker base does wear well on anyone; Lattafa’s own site lists it for women. If you are drawn to Black Opium Over Red but have never loved the coffee, this is worth trying. If you are specifically after Lost Cherry’s almond, look elsewhere.
How It Compares With the Other Houses We Stock
For cherry in a lighter, fresher register, Khadlaj Ria (£24.99) pairs cherry and strawberry with raspberry, mandarin and grapefruit over patchouli and blackcurrant. It shares Mayar’s cherry, strawberry and patchouli, but has no cocoa or vanilla — so it wears as a sparkling red-fruit scent rather than a dessert.
For cherry taken somewhere darker, Bujairami Roselle (£49.99) opens on cherry and pepper and moves into oud, incense and lactones over benzoin and moss. It is smokier and more niche than Mayar, with the density of an Extrait; Mayar is the sweeter, simpler and far cheaper route into the same fruit.
The Other Mayar
Cherry Intense is the rich, dessert-like half of the Lattafa Mayar pair. Its sibling, Mayar Natural Intense (£17.99, reduced from £39.99), goes the opposite way with fig, coconut water and lotus, a lighter and more watery scent for hot summer days. Choose Cherry Intense when you want cherry jam, cacao and vanilla on a cold evening; choose Natural Intense when you want something airy.

One size: a 100ml Eau de Parfum at £18.99, or 19p per millilitre. Check the colour before you buy — the red bottle is the cherry; the pink original Mayar and the turquoise Mayar Natural Intense are entirely different scents.

Mayar Cherry Intense FAQs
What does Lattafa Mayar Cherry Intense smell like?
Cherry jam and dark chocolate. A short burst of sugary strawberry and bergamot leads into sticky, cooked cherry with dry cocoa beside it, and it settles into vanilla, amber and earthy patchouli. Sweet, rich and slightly dark.
What are the full Mayar Cherry Intense notes?
Top — strawberry, bergamot; heart — cherry jam, cacao; base — vanilla, amber, patchouli. Fragrantica and lattafa.com list the same eight notes.
Is Mayar Cherry Intense a Black Opium Over Red or Lost Cherry dupe?
Lattafa does not claim either. Fragrantica reviewers often compare it to Black Opium Over Red, with which it shares cherry, vanilla and patchouli — but Over Red is built on coffee and white florals, which Mayar does not contain. Lost Cherry is also mentioned, but its almond character is absent here. Lattafa has no affiliation with either brand.
How long does it last?
Fragrantica reviews are unusually divided — from minutes to days — so we will not quote a number. The consistent message is that it holds much better on clothing than on skin.
Is it unisex?
Fragrantica classes it for women and men; Lattafa’s site lists it for women. The cocoa and patchouli base makes it wear comfortably on anyone.
How much is Mayar Cherry Intense in the UK?
£18.99 for the 100ml Eau de Parfum at Khaleej Scents, with free UK delivery and no minimum spend — 19p per millilitre.
Which Mayar is which?
The red bottle (this one) is the cherry-cocoa gourmand. The turquoise Mayar Natural Intense is a fresh fig-and-coconut-water aquatic, and the pink original Mayar is a separate fruity floral. Same name, three different fragrances.
Notes verified against Fragrantica and lattafa.com in September 2026; both list the same pyramid. Launch year (2024) is from Fragrantica; no perfumer is credited there. The Black Opium Over Red and Lost Cherry comparisons reflect Fragrantica reviewer discussion, not a Lattafa claim; Over Red’s notes are from its Fragrantica listing. Performance is a qualitative summary of Fragrantica reviewer reports — we have not invented figures. Written by Shaheen Shah Abrar, Khaleej Scents.
