Lattafa Amethyst: A Double Rose Wrapped in Oud
Amethyst was the second release in Lattafa’s Bade’e Al Oud line, arriving in 2021, and it is the one to choose if you want rose rather than spice. It uses two roses at once — Turkish and Bulgarian — and pushes them into a jammy, almost syrupy density before a base of oud, amber and vanilla darkens and sweetens the whole thing. Fragrantica reviewers reach for words like “gothic”, “purple” and “nuclear”, which gives a fair idea of its volume. Of the Lattafa perfumes we stock, it is the richest floral.
The Scent Profile
Top — pink pepper, bergamot. A brief, bright introduction. Pink pepper gives a rosy fizz rather than heat, and bergamot adds a flash of citrus light. Neither lasts long; they are there to open the curtain.
Heart — Turkish rose, Bulgarian rose, jasmine. The centre of the fragrance. Using two roses gives it depth — one fuller and fruitier, one greener and more lemony — and together they read as a candied, jam-like rose rather than a fresh-cut stem. Jasmine thickens the floral heart and adds a faint creaminess.
Base — agarwood (oud), amber, vanilla. The oud here is smooth and supporting rather than smoky or medicinal; it gives the rose a dark frame. Amber adds resinous warmth and vanilla a sweetness that keeps the whole composition from feeling severe. This is the combination that makes Amethyst read as a rose-oud rather than a straightforward floral.
How It Compares — the Honest Version
Lattafa does not name an inspiration for Amethyst. Fragrantica reviewers most often compare it to Initio Atomic Rose, and the shared ground is a big, sweet, radiant rose with real power behind it. But the comparison is not settled: some reviewers call it a close alternative, while others say plainly that it is nowhere near. Where it differs is the base — Amethyst’s oud and amber give it a darker, more classically Arabian finish. Other names mentioned, such as Tom Ford Black Orchid and various Montale rose-ouds, are passing comparisons rather than a consensus. We would describe it as its own rose-oud that happens to sit near Atomic Rose, not a copy of it.
Lattafa has no affiliation with, licence from or endorsement by Initio Parfums Privés, Tom Ford, Montale or any other house named here.
Amethyst Performance & When To Wear
Fragrantica voters mostly rate Amethyst among the strongest performers in the whole Bade’e Al Oud line. Reviewers repeatedly describe it as lasting all day on skin and for days on clothing, with projection that is strong enough to need restraint. This is the one bottle in the range where the common warning is to use less, not more. As with its siblings, several reviewers say a little maceration smooths the opening.
Save it for cooler weather and evenings. Reviewers consistently warn that the jammy rose and vanilla turn cloying in summer heat. Dinners, occasions, winter nights and anywhere you want a fragrance to be noticed are its natural setting.
Who It’s For
Amethyst is for anyone who wants a big, rich rose with a dark oriental base, and who is comfortable wearing something that announces itself. Lattafa and Fragrantica both list it as unisex; the rose leans soft, but the oud and amber give it enough weight for anyone. It is not for someone who prefers fresh, dewy or understated rose, and it is not an office fragrance. If you are rose-curious rather than rose-committed, try it on a weekend evening before making it a signature.
How It Compares With the Other Houses We Stock
The natural step up is Bujairami Mad Love (£49.99), an Extrait that pairs rose and oud with raspberry, saffron, birch smoke and suede leather — smokier, drier and more textured than Amethyst’s sweet amber-vanilla finish. At the same price level, Khadlaj Oud Noir (£19.99) also sets rose against oud but leads with tart raspberry and adds incense and cypriol; it is fruitier and more resinous, where Amethyst is the more purely floral of the two.
Amethyst’s Place in the Bade’e Al Oud Range
Amethyst is the floral face of Lattafa’s Bade’e Al Oud range, and its oud is shared with the bottle that started it all: Oud for Glory (£19.49), where saffron and patchouli replace the rose for a drier, smokier winter scent. Prefer fruit to flowers? Honor and Glory (£19.99) mixes pineapple, cinnamon and vanilla into something sweet and warming for autumn. At the lightest end, Sublime (£19.99) is all apple, lychee and moss, a fresher companion for spring and early summer.

Lattafa Amethyst FAQs
What does Lattafa Amethyst smell like?
A thick, jammy rose — two of them, Turkish and Bulgarian — with jasmine, introduced by pink pepper and bergamot and settling onto a dark, sweet base of oud, amber and vanilla. Rich, potent and more oriental than garden-fresh.
What are the full Amethyst notes?
Top: pink pepper, bergamot. Heart: Turkish rose, Bulgarian rose, jasmine. Base: agarwood (oud), amber, vanilla. This is the Fragrantica pyramid, and UK retailers list the same notes.
Is Amethyst a dupe of Initio Atomic Rose?
Fragrantica reviewers often compare it to Atomic Rose, but opinion is divided — some find it close, others say it is not similar at all. Lattafa itself makes no such claim. Amethyst’s oud and amber base makes it darker and more Arabian in character. Lattafa has no affiliation with Initio.
How long does Amethyst last?
Fragrantica voters mostly describe it as very long-lasting, commonly all day on skin and for days on clothing, with strong projection. It is the most powerful of the four Bade’e Al Oud fragrances we stock.
Is Amethyst for men or women?
It is unisex according to both Lattafa and Fragrantica. The rose leans feminine; the oud and amber make it wearable for anyone who likes a bold rose.
How much is Amethyst in the UK?
£19.99 for the 100ml Eau de Parfum at Khaleej Scents, with free UK delivery and no minimum spend.
How many sprays should I use?
Fewer than you think. Reviewers regularly warn about its strength, and one or two sprays is plenty for an evening out. Over-applying is the most common way to turn a rich rose into a cloying one.
Notes verified against Fragrantica in September 2026; lattafa.com’s Amethyst page could not be reached at the time of writing, so the pyramid rests on Fragrantica and matching UK retailer listings. The Atomic Rose comparison reflects divided Fragrantica reviewer opinion, not a Lattafa claim. Performance is summarised from Fragrantica community reports, not our own testing.
