Oud for Glory is the bottle that made the Bade’e Al Oud name: a hot, slightly metallic saffron and nutmeg opening with a lavender edge, then smoky agarwood and patchouli that carry through to a musky, dense finish. It is loud for its first hour and deliberately so. 100ml Eau de Parfum, £19.49, free UK delivery.

Lattafa Oud for Glory: Saffron Smoke on a £19 Budget

Oud for Glory is the release that launched Lattafa’s Bade’e Al Oud line in 2020, and it remains the one people mean when they say the name. It is not subtle and was never meant to be. Saffron and nutmeg hit first with a warm, faintly metallic spice, lavender cuts a cooler aromatic line through them, and within minutes a dark agarwood accord rises up underneath and refuses to leave. Patchouli adds soil and shadow; musk rounds off the finish. Among the Lattafa perfumes we stock, this is the one to choose if you want a genuine oud character rather than an oud in name only.

The honest caveat comes first, because it is the thing that decides whether you will like it: the opening is polarising. A good share of wearers describe the first quarter of an hour as harsh, rubbery or medicinal. Those who stay with it tend to find the dry-down is the reason the fragrance became famous.

The Scent Profile

Top — saffron, nutmeg, lavender. Saffron is the lead voice: leathery, hay-like and slightly coppery, the note most associated with Gulf perfumery. Nutmeg adds a dry kitchen-cupboard warmth. Lavender is the surprise, bringing a herbal coolness that keeps the spice from going stuffy. This is also the phase that divides opinion — the combination of saffron and a sharp oud accord can read as scorched rubber for a few minutes before it smooths out.

Heart — agarwood (oud), patchouli. This is where the fragrance lives. The oud is woody and smoky rather than barnyard-animalic, and patchouli sits beneath it with an earthy, faintly chocolatey darkness. The spice from the opening does not vanish; it threads through the heart and keeps it warm.

Base — agarwood (oud), patchouli, musk. The same two materials carry on, now softened by musk into a denser, smoother trail. Because oud and patchouli appear at both heart and base, the dry-down does not so much change as settle — which is why it holds together for so long, and why it clings to wool and scarves.

How It Compares — the Honest Version

Lattafa does not name an inspiration for Oud for Glory on its own product page, so this is a community comparison rather than a brand claim. Fragrantica reviewers most often compare it to Initio Oud for Greatness, and the reasoning is easy to follow: both are built around saffron, nutmeg, lavender, oud, patchouli and musk. Where they differ is finish. Reviewers repeatedly describe the Initio as smoother and more blended, and Oud for Glory as rougher in the first few minutes. Other names that come up occasionally — Tom Ford Ombré Leather, MFK Baccarat Rouge 540 — are passing mentions, not a consensus, and we would not buy on the strength of them.

Treat it as the same idea executed at a very different price point, not as an identical fragrance. Lattafa has no affiliation with, licence from or endorsement by Initio Parfums Privés or any other house named here.

Oud for Glory Performance & When To Wear

Performance at a Glance
Summarised from Fragrantica community reports (8,000+ ratings) — see the sourcing note below
LONGEVITY · long lasting for most, but reports vary widely by skin and batch
SILLAGE · moderate to strong early on, often closer to skin later
OFFICE SAFE · one spray, on clothing, at most
VERSATILITY · cold weather and evenings; poor in heat
BEST SEASONS
Autumn ●●●Winter ●●●Spring ●○○Summer ○○○

Fragrantica voters mostly rate Oud for Glory as a strong, long-lasting fragrance, but the spread is unusually wide: some reviewers report a full day and more on clothing, while a noticeable minority find it drops to a skin scent after around three hours. Several put that difference down to batch and to maceration — letting a new bottle rest for a few weeks after the first sprays — rather than to skin alone. We are not going to put an hour figure on it; the community data does not support a single number.

It is a cold-weather fragrance. Heat pushes the saffron and oud into something cloying, while autumn air and winter evenings let the spice and smoke read properly. Evenings out, occasions, and a scarf on a cold walk are its natural setting. In a shared office, one spray on clothing rather than skin is the sensible limit.

Who It’s For

Oud for Glory suits someone who already knows they like dark, spiced, woody fragrances and wants a real oud accord without paying niche prices. Lattafa sells it for men and women, and Fragrantica lists it as unisex with a masculine lean; the lavender stops it reading as purely one or the other. It is not the right first Arabian fragrance for someone unsure about oud — the opening is too much of a test. If sweet, soft or fruity is your preference, look elsewhere in the Bade’e Al Oud line.

How It Compares With the Other Houses We Stock

The closest relative on our shelves is Reef 33 (£88.95), which works the same saffron-and-oud axis but with rosemary in place of lavender and nutmeg, and a sparer three-note structure. Reef 33 is the cleaner, more polished of the two; Oud for Glory is denser, earthier and far cheaper. If you want oud with fruit rather than spice, Khadlaj Oud Noir (£19.99) sits at almost the same price but leads with raspberry and rose over its oud, amber and patchouli base — a friendlier, sweeter entry point.

The Rest of the Bade’e Al Oud Family

If Oud for Glory is too much smoke for you, the wider Bade’e Al Oud line offers three gentler routes. Bade’e Al Oud Sublime (£19.99) swaps the spice for apple, lychee and moss, a brighter and greener choice for spring days. Honor and Glory (£19.99) pairs pineapple with cinnamon and vanilla, sweeter and warmer, and well suited to autumn evenings. Amethyst (£19.99) keeps the oud but wraps it in rose and amber, a romantic option for cooler nights out.

Lattafa Oud for Glory FAQs

What does Lattafa Oud for Glory smell like?

Hot saffron and nutmeg with a cool lavender edge, sliding quickly into smoky oud and earthy patchouli, then a dense musky oud trail. Dark, spiced and woody, with no real sweetness.

What are the full Oud for Glory notes?

Top: saffron, nutmeg, lavender. Heart: agarwood (oud), patchouli. Base: agarwood (oud), patchouli, musk. This is the Fragrantica pyramid, and lattafa.com lists the same profile. Some listings, including one block on Lattafa’s own page, show a bergamot, blackcurrant, caramel and raspberry pyramid under this name; that list does not match the fragrance’s well-documented character and we have not used it.

Is Oud for Glory a dupe of Initio Oud for Greatness?

Fragrantica reviewers often compare it to Oud for Greatness, and the two share the same core materials. Lattafa itself does not make the claim. Reviewers generally find the Initio smoother and Oud for Glory rougher in its opening. Lattafa has no affiliation with Initio.

How long does Oud for Glory last?

Fragrantica voters mostly describe it as long-lasting, but reports range widely — some get a full day, some find it fades to a skin scent after about three hours. Many say performance improves after a few weeks of maceration. We will not quote a single figure.

Is Oud for Glory for men or women?

Both. Lattafa markets it as unisex, and Fragrantica lists it as unisex with a masculine lean. The lavender keeps it from reading as purely masculine.

How much is Oud for Glory in the UK?

£19.49 for the 100ml Eau de Parfum at Khaleej Scents, with free UK delivery and no minimum spend.

Why does the opening smell harsh?

It is the most common complaint in reviews: the saffron and oud accord can read as rubbery or medicinal for the first 15 to 30 minutes. Most wearers say it settles into a smoother oud and patchouli after that, and improves further once the bottle has rested. If you know you cannot tolerate that kind of opening, this is not the bottle for you.

Notes verified against Fragrantica and lattafa.com in September 2026; where lattafa.com shows a second, conflicting pyramid we have used the saffron–oud profile that both sources share. The Initio comparison reflects Fragrantica reviewer opinion, not a Lattafa claim. Performance is summarised from Fragrantica community reports rather than our own testing, and no hour figure is given because the reports vary too widely.
