Most of the Riiffs range is dessert: caramel, coconut, rum, cocoa. Fareed is the exception. It is a dry, clean, spiced lavender fougère — the kind of scent that works on a Monday morning as easily as on a Friday night — and it is the Riiffs bottle people reach for when the gourmands feel like too much.
It is also the Riiffs that fragrance forums talk about for a different reason. Riiffs itself makes no “inspired by” claim for Fareed, but a steady stream of named reviewers on Fragrantica compare it to Yves Saint Laurent’s La Nuit de L’Homme, some of them very strongly. Below we set out what the published notes actually share, what the reviewers say in their own words, and where the two part ways, so you can judge for yourself.
The Scent Pyramid at a Glance
Nine notes across three tiers, as listed on Riiffs’ own UAE site. Fragrantica’s listing agrees on eight of them; the one disagreement, tobacco, is explained below the pyramid.
Green cardamom arrives first — aromatic, slightly soapy, the classic barbershop spice — with black pepper adding dryness rather than heat. Tobacco sits underneath as a dry-leaf shadow rather than a sweet pipe note.
This is the fragrance. Clean, modern lavender — closer to good shaving soap than dried stems — with geranium adding a rosy-green edge and bergamot brightening the join. A textbook aromatic fougère, and textbook is meant as a compliment.
Earthy vetiver for the floor, tonka for a soft hay-like sweetness (coumarin, not sugar) and upright cedarwood to keep everything dry. Pleasant and well-built — if unsurprising — once the spice has gone.
Where the sources disagree: Riiffs’ UAE site puts tobacco in the top notes; Riiffs’ US site moves it to the base; Fragrantica leaves it out altogether. We show it where the UAE listing does, but treat its placement as unsettled. Riiffs’ UAE site also tags Fareed “Floral, Fresh” and files it under women’s perfume, which does not fit a lavender-cardamom-coumarin structure — Fragrantica lists it for men.

La Nuit de L’Homme (2009, Anne Flipo, Pierre Wargnye and Dominique Ropion) lists six notes on Fragrantica. Five of them appear in Fareed’s pyramid.

What do wearers say? More than most budget alternatives, Fareed has a paper trail. On its Fragrantica page, reviewer cdizz, who calls La Nuit de L’Homme a long-time favourite, writes that Fareed “gets around 90% close”; sheikh_saifuddin786 calls it “98% identical to the original”; NuclearNose81 goes as far as “a 1-1 of the OG”. Not everyone agrees on the details, and several reviewers find it drier and less creamy than the YSL — consistent with the missing caraway. We would grade the likeness A−: strong, repeated reviewer agreement and five of six notes shared, but no brand claim and no controlled side-by-side test.

Performance — What Wearers Report
Figures come from named Fragrantica reviewers, not from us: SmellGoodGeneral reports 5–6 hours as a skin scent, musk.inmuse about 1.5 hours of projection then 5–6 hours close to the skin, Newtype0085 “maybe 7 hours total”, and NuclearNose81 that it lasted an 8-hour shift with the strongest projection for 3–4 hours. A minority report much less — AllMightySniff around 4 hours, vergamot15 1–2 hours. Fragrantica’s longevity votes lean heavily towards “eternal”, which some reviewers have openly questioned, so we go by the written reports instead.
In practice that makes Fareed the Riiffs you can take to work: at one or two sprays it settles into your personal space after the opening, and a fougère carries far less than a caramel gourmand. Above roughly mid-twenties temperatures the tonka and cedar can feel heavy, so autumn to spring is its best window.

Good to Know Before You Buy
- Its strength is competence, not surprise. If you have worn a mainstream lavender fougère in the last fifteen years, you will recognise the shape within a minute. That is exactly why it is so easy to wear.
- Spray clothes as well as skin. Several reviewers report it lasting longer on fabric; one or two sprays on the collar plus one on the neck is a sensible start.
- Ignore the “women’s” tag on Riiffs’ UAE site. The composition is a traditionally masculine fougère, and Fragrantica lists it for men — though nothing in it is off-limits to anyone.
- One size only. Riiffs makes Fareed in 100ml; anything smaller online is a decant, not a factory bottle.
