The fresh-spicy designer masculine is the most crowded shelf in fragrance: pink pepper and lavender up top, clean woods underneath, a bottle price that climbs every year. Khadlaj Shiyaaka Shadow is the Sharjah house’s answer to that shelf — and it adds something most of its rivals skip: an earthy patchouli-and-moss base that gives the whole thing a shadow.
It is a 2025 release in Khadlaj’s Shiyaaka Special Edition tier, the darker counterpart to the clean citrus Shiyaaka Snow. Khadlaj sells it as an original composition and makes no “inspired by” claim. Wearers, though, have made one for it: Carolina Herrera Bad Boy Cobalt Parfum Électrique. That comparison holds up better than most, and we set out below exactly where it does and does not.

The Shiyaaka Shadow Scent Pyramid
Nine notes across three tiers. Khadlaj’s own listing and Fragrantica agree note for note — the only wording difference is “dry amber” (Khadlaj) versus “amber” (Fragrantica).
The pepper leads rather than the citrus, so the opening is prickly and dry rather than juicy. Grapefruit adds bitter, rindy brightness underneath and lavender pulls the whole thing towards the aromatic-fougère tradition.
Warmth without sweetness. Dry amber keeps it from turning gourmand, cedar brings a sharp pencil-shaving woodiness, and cashmere wood adds the soft, slightly powdery blur that stops the composition turning harsh.
Where it earns the name. Patchouli and moss give an earthy, damp-forest quality that most fresh-spicy masculines leave out, and clean musk keeps it wearable rather than heavy.

How close is it, really? Named Fragrantica reviewers put it in a tight band. MeMNoC calls it “as close as you can get to Bad Boy Cobalt Parfum Electrique”; vic_cologne08 says “about 90% similar” but “a little synthetic compared to bad boy”; Theamateursniffer puts it at 85–90%; GemStateScent says 82%; and Augustus857 splits it — roughly 80% in the opening and 85% in the drydown. Five voices landing between 80% and 90% is consistent evidence, which is why we grade it B+ rather than A: nobody is claiming they cannot tell the two apart, and Cobalt is generally felt to blend more smoothly and last better.
Some reviewers also mention Invictus Platinum as a reference point, which fits: it is the same pepper-lavender-woods school. Carolina Herrera prices come from its own UK site, where the 50ml Eau de Parfum Électrique is £75 (checked October 2026); we compare per ml because a standalone 100ml price was not listed there. Performance — What Wearers Report
These are not our lab numbers. On Fragrantica, most wearers who give an hours figure land around six to eight hours on skin, with projection strongest in the first one to two hours before it settles closer. Good to Know Before You Buy
- It is a cool-weather scent first. Amber, patchouli and moss give it weight that suits autumn, winter and evenings; the grapefruit-pepper opening keeps it wearable on a cool spring day.
- It is not “Shiyaaka Shadow Snow”. Shadow and Snow are two separate fragrances in the same Special Edition tier. And Shiyaaka is a Khadlaj line, not a Lattafa one.
- Marketed for men, not gendered in practice. Pepper, grapefruit, wood and moss belong to anyone who likes a dry, earthy scent.
