Lattafa Asad is the one that made the line famous: sharp black pepper and a bright slice of pineapple over dry tobacco, a darker middle of coffee, patchouli and powdery iris, and a long, resinous vanilla-amber finish. It is warm, spicy and built for cooler months. 100ml Eau de Parfum, £17.99, free UK delivery.

Lattafa Asad: Black Pepper, Pineapple and a Slow-Burning Vanilla Amber

Asad — the Arabic word for lion — is the bottle that turned a budget line into a cult one. Its opening is a small collision: cracked black pepper, a squeeze of bright pineapple and a dry, leafy tobacco, all arriving at once. It sounds busy and wears surprisingly coherent. Give it half an hour and it darkens into roasted coffee and earthy patchouli, with iris laying a faint powder over the top, before sinking into a long base of vanilla, amber, benzoin and labdanum that stays warm on skin well into the evening. It is a spicy amber first and foremost, not a fresh fragrance and not a gourmand, and it wears best when the air is cold. You will find it with the rest of the Lattafa perfumes we stock, inside our Lattafa Asad collection.

The Scent Profile

Top — black pepper, tobacco, pineapple. Pepper leads, and it is the dry, peppercorn kind rather than anything hot. Pineapple adds juice and a flash of sweetness that keeps the first ten minutes from reading severe, while tobacco sits underneath as a dry-leaf shadow. This is the loudest part of the fragrance and also the shortest; most of the fruit is gone inside half an hour.

Heart — coffee, patchouli, iris. Where Asad gets its depth. The coffee is roasted and slightly bitter rather than milky, patchouli brings a damp-earth weight, and iris is the unexpected note — a cool, rooty powder that softens the edges and stops the heart feeling muddy. It is the phase most people describe when they say Asad smells “expensive”.

Base — vanilla, amber, dry wood, benzoin, labdanum. A classic resinous amber drydown. Benzoin and labdanum give a sticky, balsamic warmth, vanilla sweetens it without turning it into dessert, and dry wood keeps the whole thing upright. This is where Asad spends most of its time on skin, and where the tobacco from the opening quietly resurfaces.

How Asad Compares to Dior Sauvage Elixir — the Honest Version

Lattafa does not name an inspiration for Asad on its own product page, so this is a community comparison, not a manufacturer claim. Fragrantica reviewers often compare it to Dior Sauvage Elixir, and it is easy to see why: both are dark, spicy, amber-based masculines with a sweet resinous finish and a lot of presence.

Where they differ matters, though. Sauvage Elixir is built around a spice-and-lavender core with a liquorice-tinged, woody amber finish; Asad has no lavender and no liquorice, and leans on pineapple, tobacco and coffee instead. On skin that makes Asad fruitier at the start and more gourmand-leaning in the middle, where the Dior stays drier and more aromatic. Think of them as neighbours in the same style rather than two versions of one fragrance, and if Sauvage Elixir specifically is what you love, test before assuming Asad will replace it.

Lattafa Perfumes is an independent UAE fragrance house with no affiliation to, licence from, or endorsement by Dior. We name Sauvage Elixir only so you can place the style.

We could not retrieve Fragrantica’s longevity and sillage vote breakdown for Asad, so we are not going to quote percentages. What we can say is that across its Fragrantica page — rated 4.03 out of 5 from more than 14,000 votes — written reviews lean clearly towards long-lasting with moderate-to-strong projection, while individual reports vary widely from person to person and batch to batch. A recurring theme is that a new bottle improves after a few weeks of rest, with the opening becoming smoother.

In practice that makes Asad an autumn and winter fragrance first. Cold air suits the pepper and the resinous base; high summer heat pushes the sweetness forward and can make it heavy. It is at home on evenings out, dinners and weekends. For work, keep it to one or two sprays, ideally on clothing rather than skin.

Who It’s For & Styling

Asad is for someone who wants a warm, spicy, confident scent with some weight behind it, and who is happy for people to notice. If you like amber, tobacco and coffee notes but do not want something as sweet as a full gourmand, it sits in a comfortable middle. Lattafa markets it to men and the pepper-tobacco character leans that way, though the vanilla-amber base is perfectly wearable by anyone who likes the style.

Styling tip: two sprays is plenty. One to the chest, one to the back of the neck or a coat collar, and let the base do the rest — over-applying mostly amplifies the sharp opening, not the part you actually want.

How Asad Compares With the Other Houses We Stock

If the pineapple is what draws you, Reef Arabs of Obaiah (£74.99) takes the same fruit in a very different direction: juicy pineapple straight into supple leather and a resinous oud, rather than Asad’s pepper, coffee and vanilla. It is the more luxurious and more oud-forward of the two, and the price reflects that.

If it is the warm spiced amber you are after, Khadlaj Onyx Gold (£27.99) is the closest relative on our shelves — rum, bitter orange, ginger and cardamom over dried fruits, then myrrh, vanilla, tonka and patchouli. Onyx Gold is boozier and louder; Asad is drier at the start and more tobacco-and-coffee in the middle.

The Rest of the Asad Line

Asad is the original, and four other bottles now carry the name. None of them smells like a stronger or weaker version of this one, so pick by mood rather than by label. Asad Bourbon (£17.99) swaps the pineapple and tobacco for cocoa, bourbon vanilla and lavender, and is the cosier winter option. Asad Elixir (£21.49) goes darker, with saffron, tobacco and frankincense. For warm weather, Asad Zanzibar (£15.49) is salty coconut water and iris, and Asad Zanzibar Limited Edition (£18.99) is a cleaner marine-and-soap scent. See all five on our Lattafa Asad page.

Lattafa Asad FAQs

What does Lattafa Asad smell like?

Spicy, warm and slightly sweet. Black pepper and pineapple open it over dry tobacco, the middle turns to roasted coffee, patchouli and powdery iris, and it settles into a resinous vanilla-amber base with benzoin and labdanum. The overall impression is a dark, confident amber rather than a fresh or sugary scent.

What are the full Asad notes?

Top: black pepper, tobacco, pineapple. Heart: coffee, patchouli, iris. Base: vanilla, amber, dry wood, benzoin, labdanum. Fragrantica and Lattafa’s own site list the same eleven notes.

Is Lattafa Asad a Dior Sauvage Elixir dupe?

Lattafa does not say so. Fragrantica reviewers often compare the two because both are dark, spicy ambers with a sweet resinous finish, but Asad has no lavender or liquorice and adds pineapple, tobacco and coffee, so it wears fruitier at first and more gourmand in the middle. A similar style, not the same fragrance. Lattafa has no affiliation with Dior.

How long does Asad last?

Fragrantica reviewers generally describe it as long-lasting with moderate-to-strong projection, though individual reports vary a lot. We could not access the vote breakdown, so we will not put a number on it. Many wearers say a new bottle performs better after a few weeks of rest.

Is Asad for men or women?

Lattafa and Fragrantica both list it for men, and the pepper-tobacco character leans masculine. The vanilla-amber base is wearable by anyone who enjoys warm, spicy scents.

How much is Lattafa Asad in the UK?

£17.99 for the 100ml Eau de Parfum at Khaleej Scents, with free UK delivery and no minimum spend.

Is Asad the same as Asad Elixir or Asad Bourbon?

No. They share a name and bottle shape but are different fragrances. Asad is the original pepper-pineapple-tobacco amber; the later releases in the Asad collection go in their own directions, so check the notes on each before buying.

Notes verified against Fragrantica and lattafa.com in September 2026; both list the same pyramid and Fragrantica gives a 2021 launch. The Sauvage Elixir comparison reflects Fragrantica reviewer opinion, not a claim by Lattafa. Fragrantica’s longevity and sillage vote breakdown was not available to us, so performance is summarised from written reviews and kept qualitative. Written by Shaheen Shah Abrar, Khaleej Scents.
