Khadlaj Island Dreams — The Symphony Alternative With the Citrus Turned Up
Bergamot · Ginger · Grapefruit · Ambroxan · Musk — 100ml Extrait de Parfum, 100% authentic, free UK delivery.
Island Dreams is five notes and no filler: bergamot and ginger, a big juicy grapefruit heart, and a clean ambroxan-musk base. It is the freshest fragrance in Khadlaj’s Island family and, with more than 2,000 votes on Fragrantica, one of the most-discussed Khadlaj releases of 2025.
Almost all of that discussion is about one comparison: Louis Vuitton Symphony. Khadlaj makes no inspired-by claim — its own listing talks only about island beaches — but Fragrantica reviewers line the two up constantly, and several put the likeness at 90% or higher. In our Khadlaj dupes guide we grade it B+: very close, with a sharper opening and a less refined musk.
One correction worth making: some listings online, including an earlier version of this page, name Amouage Symphony. The fragrance people compare Island Dreams to is Louis Vuitton’s Symphony, the 2021 grapefruit-ginger extrait by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud.
The Scent Pyramid at a Glance
Five notes across three tiers. Khadlaj’s own listing and Fragrantica agree; Khadlaj calls the heart a “grapefruit accord”.
Bright bergamot with a peppery ginger spark. Up close, in the first minute, several wearers find it sharp — even a little like a cleaning product — before it blooms into the air.
One note, and it carries the whole fragrance: a tart, slightly bitter, genuinely juicy grapefruit. Reviewers reach for “Fresca”, “lemon granita” and “grapefruit cocktail” to describe it.
Ambroxan gives a dry, mineral warmth and musk a clean haze. This is where reviewers say Island Dreams differs most from Symphony: the musk is less polished.

Island Dreams vs Louis Vuitton Symphony — How Close?
Louis Vuitton publishes very few named notes for Symphony — grapefruit, bergamot and ginger, over musk and a set of accords rather than ingredients. Four of Island Dreams’ five notes appear on that list. The fifth, ambroxan, is not named for Symphony on Fragrantica, though reviewers note LV’s own materials include Ambrox Super.

What reviewers say. On Fragrantica, erictgv puts Island Dreams at “90–95% similar to the Symphony”, markactor calls it “spot on… 95% close”, and JHILLY99 finds it “very close to LV Symphony, it just lacks the depth”. The recurring caveats are the ones we grade on: a harsher first ten to fifteen minutes and a less refined musk. Several owners say the opening softens after the bottle has rested for a few weeks. Khadlaj has no affiliation with Louis Vuitton, and Island Dreams is sold as its own composition.
Performance — What Wearers Report
These are ranges reported by Fragrantica wearers, not our own measurements. Longevity varies more than usual — some report four hours, others twelve or more — and many say it improves after the bottle has rested. For most, the loud citrus phase settles into a close musk after two to four hours.

Good to Know Before You Buy
- Give it a minute. The first sniff on skin can be sharp. Smell it in the air after a minute or two and the grapefruit comes through.
- Let a new bottle rest. Several owners say the harsh edge softens after a few weeks.
- Not a tropical fruit scent. Despite the name, there is no pineapple, mango or coconut here. It is grapefruit and musk.
- Office-friendly. Clean, fresh and not sweet — one of the easiest Khadlaj bottles to wear to work.
