Riiffs Momento is the highest-rated fragrance the house makes — saffron and mandarin over a warm damask rose and oud heart, finishing on tonka, caramel and amberwood. Sweet, spiced and unmistakably Arabian, and the closest thing on the market to Montale Arabians Tonka at a quarter of the price. 100ml Extrait de Parfum, £29.99, free UK delivery.

Riiffs Momento: Saffron, Damask Rose and Caramel Oud

Momento is the fragrance that made Riiffs worth paying attention to. It opens on saffron and mandarin with sugar sitting just behind them — a bright, slightly medicinal spice against sweet citrus, which is the classic Arabian opening done properly rather than as a shortcut. The heart is where it earns its reputation: damask rose and oud together, with tonka bean already creeping in underneath to round off the edges. This is not the harsh, barnyard oud of traditional Gulf perfumery; it is the polished, jammy interpretation that modern houses use, and it sits on the rose rather than smothering it. The base is frankly gourmand — cedarwood and amberwood give it structure, but caramel is doing the emotional work, and it turns the last four or five hours into something warm and edible. Within the Riiffs perfumes UK range this is the flagship: it carries more community votes than every other Riiffs release combined, and it is the one people buy a second bottle of.

The Scent Profile

Top — saffron, mandarin, sugar. Saffron leads, and it is the real character note here — leathery, faintly bitter, with that dried-iodine quality that separates it from ordinary spice. Mandarin lifts it and stops the opening feeling heavy, while sugar is less a note than a texture, sanding down the saffron’s rough edge. It is a short phase, perhaps twenty minutes, and it is the least distinctive part of the fragrance. Do not judge Momento in the first ten minutes.

Heart — tonka bean, damask rose, oud. The reason to own this. Damask rose is deep and slightly jammy rather than fresh or green, and the oud beneath it is smooth and resinous — synthetic in origin, almost certainly, but well-blended and free of the sharp plasticky note that lets cheaper oud accords down. Tonka arriving this early is the clever part: it bridges the spicy heart into the sweet base so there is no awkward transition, and it is why the fragrance reads as one continuous idea rather than three separate acts.

Base — cedarwood, amberwood, caramel. Cedarwood is the dry backbone, amberwood supplies the projection and that warm, radiant hum common to most modern ambers, and caramel is the note everyone actually remembers. It is a proper caramel too — buttery and slightly burnt, not the flat vanilla-sugar that usually stands in for it. The dry-down is where Momento tips from “Arabian rose oud” into “gourmand”, and whether you love it depends entirely on how you feel about that.

How Momento Compares to Montale Arabians Tonka — the Honest Version

This is the most-repeated dupe claim in the Riiffs catalogue, and it is worth being precise about where it comes from. Riiffs itself makes no such claim. We checked its UAE, UK, US and India storefronts and none of them name Montale or any other house — Riiffs’ own copy is generic luxury marketing that mentions no reference at all. The comparison comes entirely from resellers and the community: one online retailer lists the product under the literal title “Riiffs Momento – Montale Arabians Tonka Clone”, FragranceX’s aggregated customer reviews say it “closely resembles” the Montale, and there is a substantial body of TikTok comparison videos saying the same. That is a widespread, multi-source claim rather than one reviewer’s opinion — but it is still not the manufacturer’s.

So how close is it actually? Closer than most. Set the published pyramids side by side and the skeletons genuinely match: saffron in the top, rose and oud in the heart, tonka and a brown-sugar sweetness in the base. Montale opens on bergamot and saffron, hearts on Bulgarian rose and Nepalese oud, and lands on amber, tonka beans, brown sugar, white musk and oakmoss. Momento swaps bergamot for mandarin, Bulgarian rose for damask, and replaces the oakmoss-and-musk finish with cedarwood, amberwood and caramel.

Those substitutions matter. Oakmoss gives the Montale a slightly dry, mossy-chypre shadow underneath the sweetness that Momento simply does not have. In its place Momento pushes caramel forward, which makes it noticeably sweeter and more gourmand than the original. If you already own Arabians Tonka you will recognise the family immediately and will also notice what is missing. If you have never smelled it, Momento stands up perfectly well as its own fragrance.

Then there is the price. Montale Arabians Tonka retails at £92.90 at Notino and £132.00 at Harrods for 100ml. Momento is £29.99 for the same volume, which puts it at roughly a quarter to a third of the cost. Riiffs Parfums is an independent Dubai-based house with no affiliation to, licence from, or endorsement by Montale or any other brand named here. We name Arabians Tonka only so you can place the style. Momento is not sold as a clone by its manufacturer and we will not describe it as one.

Riiffs Momento Performance & When To Wear

Performance at a Glance
Our own wear-testing — see the sourcing note on why we do not quote a community longevity score
LONGEVITY · 7–9 hours on skin, all day on a scarf or coat
PROJECTION · loud for the first two hours, then a warm bubble
OFFICE SAFE · one spray only, and not in a small room
VERSATILITY · evenings and cold weather — it is not an all-rounder
BEST SEASONS
Spring ●●○Summer ●○○Autumn ●●●Winter ●●●

Momento performs. Seven to nine hours on skin is what we get consistently, and it survives a full working day plus an evening without a top-up — on wool and scarves it is still clearly there the next morning. The first two hours are genuinely loud, which is the part to plan around: this is not a fragrance you apply generously and then sit in a meeting room with. Two sprays is the ceiling for daytime and one is often enough. The saffron-oud opening is the loudest phase; once the caramel and amberwood take over it settles into a warm bubble that stays roughly an arm’s length away.

We have deliberately not quoted a community longevity figure, and it is worth explaining why. Momento is the most-rated Riiffs fragrance on Parfumo — 8.5 out of 10 from 321 ratings, which is a genuinely meaningful sample and the single best evidence that this fragrance is well-liked. But Parfumo’s individual product page for Momento is broken: it returns a 2012 launch date, a note list of fern, forest accord and green notes, and zero ratings, with a canonical URL pointing at an entirely different fragrance. The rating above comes from Parfumo’s brand listing, which is reliable. The performance breakdown on the product page is not, so we have used our own testing instead of repeating numbers we cannot stand behind.

This is a cold-weather fragrance. Autumn and winter are its natural home, and it is excellent from about October through March — the sweetness that would feel cloying in July reads as comforting in a cold snap. Evenings, dinners, going out. It is not office-appropriate at normal application, it is not a summer scent, and anyone telling you it is a versatile daily driver is selling rather than describing.

Who It’s For & Styling

Momento is for someone who wants an Arabian rose-oud but finds traditional ones too austere, or who likes gourmands but has grown tired of pure vanilla and coffee. The saffron-rose-oud spine gives it seriousness; the caramel base makes it comfortable. If you have ever smelled a proper Middle Eastern oud attar and thought “I like the idea but not the sharpness”, this is the version with the corners taken off.

It is unisex in composition and wears that way in practice, though Riiffs’ own UAE site files it under men’s fragrances while its UK site lists it as unisex and every third-party retailer we checked calls it unisex. Rose and oud are not gendered materials in Arabian perfumery and never have been. We stock and list it as unisex.

Styling tip: apply to clothing as well as skin. The oud and amberwood components cling to fabric far better than they do to warm skin, and a single spray on a coat collar will still be working the following day. Avoid over-spraying — the opening is dense, and more product makes it heavier rather than longer-lasting. It suits knitwear, leather, tailoring and anything you would wear after dark.

Across the range: if you want the same warmth without the oud, Riiffs Elyssia Aura takes the cinnamon-cognac-cocoa route to a similar place at the same £29.99; for a sweet gourmand that is creamy rather than spiced, Riiffs Zenith is coconut, vanilla and rum; and if you want a Riiffs you can actually wear to work, Riiffs Fareed is the dry lavender-cardamom fougère at the other end of the range. Outside the house, the saffron and oud without any sweetness is Reef 33; for a rose-oud with cherry rather than caramel, Bujairami Roselle at £49.99; and the most direct rose-oud-saffron comparison we stock is Bujairami Mad Love.

Momento comes in 100ml only — Riiffs does not produce a 50ml or travel size, and any listing offering a smaller bottle is selling a reseller’s decant rather than a factory product. At £29.99 we sit in the middle of a UK market that runs from £23.60 at Notino to £35.00 at Beauty Base, with Emirates Oud at £24.99 and Riiffs’ own UK site at £29.99. We are not the cheapest and we do not claim to be; what we offer at that price is free delivery with no minimum, stock we can vouch for, and a product page that tells you where every figure came from.

At 30p per millilitre this is a strong cost-per-wear proposition given the performance, and it is the single best-value entry point into the Riiffs perfumes UK catalogue.

Momento in the Riiffs Perfumes UK Range

Riiffs is a Dubai-based house with a catalogue somewhere north of a hundred fragrances and no named perfumers, which makes it difficult to judge from the outside. Momento is the fragrance that answers the question. It has more community ratings than any other Riiffs release by a wide margin, and it scores 8.5 against a brand average of 7.6 — so it is not just the most popular, it is measurably better received than the house’s typical output.

That makes it the obvious starting point. If you buy one Riiffs bottle to find out whether the house is for you, buy this one. It also occupies a specific slot in a collection: this is your cold-weather, after-dark, make-an-impression fragrance. It does not overlap with anything fresh or citrus-led, and it is emphatically not the bottle you reach for on a Tuesday morning — for that, look at Riiffs Costa de Amalfi at £24.99, which is the summer and office end of the same catalogue, or Riiffs Seasons Drift for a dry citrus-woody. Riiffs’ sister label Nusuk, which we catalogue separately on our Nusuk perfumes page, covers more traditional Arabic territory if that is the direction you want to explore next.

Tried, Tested, Trusted

Our team has worn and assessed Momento in real UK conditions across a full British autumn — which for a fragrance this warm and sweet is the test that matters, because the question is never whether it performs in a Dubai summer but whether it reads as comforting or overwhelming on a damp commute. Every bottle we sell is 100% authentic, sourced from authorised distributors, never refilled or repackaged. Secure checkout, fast dispatch, and free delivery across the UK on every order, no minimum.

We would rather tell you a fragrance is loud than let you discover it in a meeting. Momento is loud. It is also very good, and those two things are both true.

Riiffs Momento FAQs

What does Riiffs Momento smell like?

Sweet, spiced and warm. Saffron and mandarin open it, damask rose and a smooth oud form the heart, and it dries down into caramel, tonka and amberwood over dry cedar. Most people read it as an Arabian rose-oud that turns gourmand — the caramel in the base is the note everyone comments on. It is rich rather than fresh, and it is a cold-weather fragrance.

What are the full Riiffs Momento notes?

Top — saffron, mandarin, sugar; heart — tonka beans, damask rose, oud; base — cedarwood, amberwood, caramel. That pyramid is published by Riiffs on its UAE site and is reproduced word-for-word by three independent UK stockists, which is why we trust it. Ignore the version on one large US retailer listing “nutmeg, cardamom and subtle floral accords” — it contradicts that retailer’s own description of the fragrance on the same page.

Is Riiffs Momento a dupe of Montale Arabians Tonka?

It is a close relative, and the claim is a community and reseller one — Riiffs has never said it. The pyramids share saffron, rose, oud and a tonka-and-brown-sugar sweetness, which is a genuine structural match. The differences are real too: Montale finishes with oakmoss and white musk for a drier, mossier shadow, while Momento replaces that with caramel and amberwood and comes out noticeably sweeter. Family resemblance, not a mirror image. Riiffs has no affiliation with Montale.

How long does Riiffs Momento last?

Seven to nine hours on skin in our testing, and all day on clothing. The first two hours project strongly before it settles closer. That is genuinely good performance, and it is the main reason the fragrance rates as well as it does. Be sparing — two sprays is enough for an evening and one is often right for daytime.

Is Momento suitable for the office?

Not really, or at least not without discipline. At one spray on skin it is manageable in a large, well-ventilated space. At two or three it will fill a room, and in a small office or a car it is too much. If you want something from the Arabian houses that is genuinely office-safe, this is not the bottle.

Is Riiffs Momento for men or women?

Unisex, and we list it that way. Riiffs is inconsistent on this — its UAE site files Momento under men’s fragrances while its UK site categorises it as unisex, and every third-party retailer we checked lists it as unisex. Rose, oud and saffron are not gendered materials in Arabian perfumery. Wear it if you like it.

Is Momento an Extrait de Parfum or an Eau de Parfum?

Riiffs labels it Extrait de Parfum on its UAE site and Eau de Parfum on its UK site, for the same 100ml bottle. UK retailers are split roughly down the middle. We list it as Extrait because that is the brand’s own primary labelling, but we would rather tell you the labelling is inconsistent than pretend otherwise — and note that no Arabian house publishes actual oil concentration percentages, so “Extrait” here is nomenclature rather than a verified specification.

Why doesn’t Riiffs’ own website list the notes?

Because its UK site does not publish note pyramids for most of its catalogue. The Momento page carries a single templated sentence — “a bold unisex fragrance blending oriental and woody notes” — which is the identical sentence used on several unrelated Riiffs products, including a coconut-vanilla gourmand. The notes above come from Riiffs’ UAE site, which does publish product-specific pyramids, cross-checked against UK stockists. This is unusual, and it is the reason so many Momento listings online contain nothing useful.

Who is Riiffs and where do the perfumes come from?

Riiffs Parfums is an independent fragrance house based in Deira, Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, family-run and generally reported as founded in 2018. It names no perfumers and publishes no manufacturing details, which is common among Arabian houses at this price point. It also operates a sister label, Nusuk. It is not connected to any designer brand.

Why is Riiffs Momento so much cheaper than Montale?

Different business models rather than different quality tiers alone. Montale is a French niche house with Paris retail, luxury distribution and Harrods-level margins; Riiffs is a Dubai house selling direct and through independents with far lower overheads and no designer licensing. Materials will differ — Montale’s oud and rose will be higher grade — but a great deal of the £100 gap is distribution rather than juice.

Note pyramid taken from Riiffs Parfums’ own UAE product listing and cross-checked against three independent UK stockists in August 2026. Riiffs’ UK site publishes no pyramid for this product and its description is templated boilerplate, so we have not used it. The Montale Arabians Tonka pyramid and pricing are quoted from Harrods and Notino. The community rating is from Parfumo’s brand listing; we have not used Parfumo’s individual Momento page, which returns a 2012 date, unrelated notes and a mismatched canonical URL. The dupe comparison is a reseller and community claim, explicitly not a manufacturer statement, and is labelled as such. Performance figures are our own wear-testing. Last reviewed August 2026.
