Start with what the name doesn’t tell you. Taif is the Saudi highland city famous for its damask roses, so most people expect a rose attar. Riiffs Taif is not a rose soliflore. It opens cold and sharp — ginger given an icy, fizzy treatment, lemon and Calabrian bergamot cutting across it — then settles into a creamy tuberose-and-rose heart and a clean vanilla-amberwood drydown. The best part, and it knows it. Ginger reads prickly and cool — closer to ginger beer than gingerbread — flanked by rindy lemon and rounder, slightly bitter bergamot. Orange blossom softens the citrus sting within a minute. Riiffs lists the lemon as “Lemon C2 extract”, which is marketing shorthand rather than a standard material name.
Where the name gets tested. The pyramid says “rose petals” with no varietal or origin, and what arrives is a fresh pink rose rather than a jammy damask. Creamy, faintly green tuberose is at least as prominent. Lovely — but if you came for rose and only rose, this is not that.
Clean and restrained: vanilla bean used dry rather than sugary, with amberwood and clearwood — modern woody-ambers — adding a pale, polished radiance. No oud, no smoke, no resin.

What do reviewers say? Opinion on Taif’s Fragrantica page is genuinely split. Slava29 calls it an “Ingenious Ginger clone”, and VietSteak, comparing it with a tester at an airport, says there is “no difference to my nose in the drydown”. But dizzy37 finds the opening “quite different”: Ingenious Ginger “is sweeter and smoother, while Taif is sharper with bitter lemon zest and a stronger ginger note”. Other reviewers point towards Bvlgari’s Tygar instead — Brittpm1! says it “very much smells like Tygar on the drydown”.

Performance — What We Know, and What We Don’t
Fragrantica reviewers disagree widely: Dramaticlex says it is “completely gone after 2-3 hours”, TBATE gets about 4 hours, tryshadee 5–6 hours, DRSM 7–8 hours after maceration, and TennesseeCharm “a solid 12 hrs”. With a spread that wide, any single number would be invented, so we don’t give one. Citrus-and-ginger openings fade fastest; spraying a collar helps.
Projection is brightest in the first hour, then modest. That makes it a genuinely office-friendly scent: clean, no oud, no heavy sweetness. Spring and summer are its home; it thins out in real cold.
