When Chanel released the darker, resinous Bleu de Chanel L’Exclusif in 2025, it moved the Bleu idea from office-fresh to smoky amber — and priced it at £215. Khadlaj Icon arrived in 2026 in the same territory: bright bergamot over lavender, incense and labdanum, drying down to amber, suede and sandalwood.
Khadlaj sells Icon as an original and makes no inspiration claim. Wearers, though, have connected the two quickly, and one reviewer who compared them over several days called Icon “a dupe, very good one in its own right but still quite different”. Icon Notes — Seven, Cleanly Arranged
Khadlaj’s own listing and Fragrantica agree exactly: one bright top note, a resinous heart and a soft woody-leather base.
A single, sparkling citrus note — clean and “blue” rather than sweet. One reviewer (Hbawse) notes the citrus stays prominent longer than expected before the resins take over.
Where Icon earns its comparison. Lavender keeps it aromatic, incense adds a cool smoke, and labdanum brings the dark, leathery resin that defines the L’Exclusif style. Reviewer jsinkw singles out the “incense laden labdanum heart”.
A soft, dry drydown. Amber warms, sandalwood smooths, and suede gives a velvety texture. Max Tatum describes it as “more dry, pencil shaving” than the Chanel.

Icon vs Bleu de Chanel L’Exclusif — Where They Meet
The overlap is in the heart and base, not the opening: L’Exclusif opens with lemon and mint, Icon with bergamot. Four of L’Exclusif’s eleven published notes appear in Icon’s pyramid, and Icon’s suede sits where L’Exclusif has leather.

What wearers say. Max Tatum, who compared them over several days on Fragrantica, calls Icon “a dupe, very good one in it’s own right but still quite different”: L’Exclusif has more smoke and sweetness, Icon turns “more dry, pencil shaving”, and it takes “3 sprays to match the 1”. jsinkw prefers Icon for “better wearability year-round” and praises its “silkiest smooth suede”. Two other reviewers simply name it as Bleu de Chanel L’Exclusif. Clear DNA, clearly different execution — hence B, not B+.

Performance — What We Know, and What We Don’t
Icon is a 2026 release with only a handful of detailed reviews, and they disagree. MrFragUK says it “disappears within an hour on skin” even after three weeks of settling; Max Tatum found it needed three sprays to match one of the Chanel. That is too little, and too mixed, to publish an hours figure. Our practical advice: three to four sprays, and try it on clothing as well as skin.

Good to Know Before You Buy
- It is the dark Bleu, not the classic one. If you want fresh, citrus-forward Bleu de Chanel, Icon is not that — it is closer to the resinous L’Exclusif.
- Expect to spray more. Wearers suggest three or four sprays; one found it faded quickly on skin.
- Cool weather suits it best. Labdanum and amber bloom on autumn and winter evenings; the bergamot keeps it daytime-wearable.
- New release, limited data. Icon has far fewer reviews than older Khadlajs, so opinions may shift as more people wear it.
