Lattafa Ajayeb Dubai Portrait: Ripe Mango on a Bed of Oud

Ajayeb Dubai Portrait starts with a squeeze of orange and lemon, bright but brief. The fruit that matters arrives next: mango, properly ripe and slightly resinous, with osmanthus adding a soft apricot-and-suede texture and jasmine rounding the edges. Then the fragrance does something most tropical scents don’t. It settles onto a warm base of oud, sandalwood and amber, so the fruit sits on something with weight and doesn’t just evaporate. Lattafa describes it as a portrait of Dubai’s sunny spirit, and among the Lattafa perfumes we stock it’s the one that best bridges a holiday fruit scent and a traditional Arabian wood.

The Scent Profile

Top — orange, lemon. A short, cheerful citrus opening. Orange gives sweetness and lemon gives sparkle. Its job is to wake the fragrance up before the fruit takes over, and it does that within a few minutes.

Heart — mango, osmanthus, jasmine. This is the reason to buy it. The mango is juicy and a little sticky, like fresh fruit rather than a sweet. Osmanthus is the clever choice: an Asian blossom that smells of apricot with a faint leathery nuance, which makes the fruit feel richer and less candy-like. Jasmine adds a floral glow, so the heart reads as fruity-floral rather than purely edible.

Base — oud, sandalwood, musk, amber. The oud here is gentle and smooth. It’s there to give depth, not to dominate, and newcomers to oud shouldn’t be put off. Sandalwood adds creaminess, amber adds warmth and musk keeps the finish clean. The result is a soft, woody-fruity skin scent for the late hours.

How It Compares — the Honest Version

Lattafa doesn’t tie Ajayeb Dubai Portrait to any designer fragrance. Its own description talks about the spirit of Dubai, not another perfume. Any comparison comes from the community. On Fragrantica, reviewers often compare it to Stéphane Humbert Lucas Mango Kiss and Soleil de Jeddah, niche fragrances also built on mango. A few reviewers also mention Amouage Guidance and Maison Margiela Mutiny.

Treat these as style references, not a clone claim. The SHL fragrances are far more intense, sweeter, niche compositions at many times the price. Portrait is lighter and more transparent, and it adds an oud-sandalwood base that gives it an Arabian character of its own. If you liked the mango idea in those fragrances but found them too heavy or too expensive, Portrait is an easy way in. We won’t put a percentage on the likeness.

Performance data for Portrait is limited. We couldn’t read Fragrantica’s longevity and sillage vote breakdown, and the written reviews there don’t settle the question, so we won’t quote an hour figure or claim results of our own. What the composition tells you is fair enough: the citrus goes first, the mango and osmanthus carry the middle, and the oud, amber and sandalwood base is the part built to last. The bars above show that in broad terms. They are not measurements.

It’s at its best in warm weather, where the mango really opens up. Think spring and summer days, holidays and relaxed evenings outdoors. The wooden base means it doesn’t fall apart in autumn, but on a bitter winter night it may feel out of place.

Who It’s For

Portrait suits someone who likes fruity scents but wants a bit more depth than a straightforward sweet one, or someone curious about oud who wants a very gentle introduction. Lattafa lists it as unisex and Fragrantica lists it for women and men. The mango and jasmine read cheerful and soft, while the oud and sandalwood give enough structure for anyone to wear it.

How It Compares with the Other Houses We Stock

For tropical fruit with a different character, Bujairami Ibiza (£49.99) takes lime, tropical fruit and coconut milk over tonka and white musk. It’s creamier, cleaner and more of a beach scent, and it has no oud at all. Portrait is the drier, woodier choice. For fruit over oud in a much bolder register, Reef Arabs of Obaiah (£74.99) pairs pineapple with leather and a deep, resinous oud. It’s louder and built for evenings, where Portrait is soft and sunny.

Mango lovers have two more options. Opulent Dubai (£14.99) pairs mango with ginger and oakmoss, fresher and greener without the oud. Yara Tous (£19.99) sets mango beside coconut and vanilla for a creamy, summery sweetness. If the oud is what keeps you coming back, Opulent Oud (£13.99) wraps it in saffron and rose, a richer, more traditional evening scent. View everything in our Lattafa perfumes range.

Lattafa Ajayeb Dubai Portrait FAQs

What does Ajayeb Dubai Portrait smell like?

Bright orange and lemon, then juicy ripe mango with apricot-like osmanthus and jasmine, settling onto a soft base of oud, sandalwood, amber and musk. It’s sunny and fruity, with gentle Arabian wood underneath.

What are the full notes?

Top: orange, lemon. Heart: mango, osmanthus, jasmine. Base: oud, sandalwood, musk, amber. Fragrantica and Lattafa’s own site list the same notes.

Is it a dupe of SHL Mango Kiss?

Lattafa doesn’t make that claim. Its own description is about Dubai, not another perfume. Fragrantica reviewers often compare it to SHL Mango Kiss and Soleil de Jeddah because all three centre on mango. Portrait is lighter and woodier, with an oud-sandalwood base of its own. Lattafa has no affiliation with Stéphane Humbert Lucas.

How long does it last?

Performance data is limited, so we won’t give you an hour figure. The citrus fades first, and the oud, amber and sandalwood base is the long-lasting part. Spraying clothing as well as skin helps.

Is it unisex?

Yes. Lattafa lists it as unisex and Fragrantica lists it for women and men. The fruit is cheerful and the woods are grounding, so it suits anyone.

How much is it in the UK?

£14.99 for the 100ml Eau de Parfum at Khaleej Scents, with free UK delivery and no minimum spend.

Is the oud strong?

No. It’s a soft, smooth oud that adds depth under the fruit rather than dominating, which makes Portrait a friendly introduction for people who’ve been wary of oud.

Notes verified against Fragrantica and lattafa.com in September 2026. Both list the same pyramid, and Fragrantica gives a 2023 launch with no perfumer credited. The mango-fragrance comparisons come from Fragrantica’s community reviews, not from Lattafa. Performance data is limited, because the vote breakdown wasn’t available to us in readable form, and we haven’t substituted figures of our own. Written by Shaheen Shah Abrar, Khaleej Scents.
