“The brand names Gris Charnel itself, and the notes back it up. Just give a new bottle a few weeks — wearers agree the leather softens with rest.”

Arabiyat Prestige Al Noor — The Gris Charnel Idea, Darker and With Leather

Al Noor means “the light” in Arabic, which is a quiet joke: the bottle is matte black and the scent inside is one of the darker, more grown-up things Arabiyat Prestige makes. Cardamom, saffron and nutmeg open it; powdery iris and soft fig carry the middle; leather, tonka, patchouli and vanilla hold the base.

The brand is open about the reference. Arabiyat Prestige’s US listing says Al Noor is “inspired by the renowned Gris Charnel by BDK Parfums”. Fragrantica wearers broadly agree, with one important twist: most describe it as a darker, more leathery take rather than a straight copy. We set out exactly what matches and what does not below, so you can decide whether the idea is enough for you.

The Al Noor Scent Pyramid

Eleven notes in three tiers. Fragrantica and the listing from Arabiyat Prestige’s parent company, My Perfumes, agree on all of them; My Perfumes also names cistus in the heart, which is the plant labdanum comes from.

Cardamom leads, aromatic rather than hot, with saffron’s leathery warmth and a pinch of nutmeg. One Fragrantica reviewer, lollsazz, sums the effect up as “a black, unsweetened cardamon tea” — which is exactly why the Gris Charnel comparison comes up.

CardamomSaffronNutmeg
IIHeart Notes

The reason people call it elegant. Cool, powdery iris sits with the green-creamy sweetness of fig; labdanum adds sticky amber resin and vetiver a dry, earthy edge that keeps it grounded.

IIIBase Notes

Soft leather rather than tannery leather, wrapped in tonka and vanilla so the sweetness balances the smoke. Patchouli adds depth. This leather is the main thing that separates Al Noor from Gris Charnel.

Al Noor vs BDK Gris Charnel — What Actually Matches

Gris Charnel’s Fragrantica pyramid has seven notes: cardamom, fig and black tea; iris and bourbon vetiver; sandalwood and tonka bean. Five of those seven are in Al Noor’s list. The two it lacks are the black tea and the sandalwood — and it adds a whole leather-saffron-patchouli layer the original does not have.

Buy BDK for the creamy original. Buy Al Noor if you want the same idea pushed darker.

What wearers say. On Fragrantica, reviewer zzremymartinzz puts it at “90% similar to BDK Gris Charnel Extrait”, and hvnscnt calls it “a darker and sexier ‘Gris Charnel'”. Not everyone agrees: Oud14 expected “BDK on steroids with a leather edge” and found it closer to Tom Ford Ombre Leather. We read that as the same point from another side: the leather is doing a lot of work here. Arabiyat Prestige has no affiliation with BDK Parfums. We name Gris Charnel only to help you place the scent.

Performance — What We Know, and What We Don’t

MacerationConsistently reported: rest a new bottle
Base materialsLeather, tonka, patchouli · tenacious
Consistent hours figureNot enough data yet — we won’t guess

Reports on staying power vary too widely to quote one number. One Fragrantica reviewer, adil1234, reports “over 10 hrs on clothes”; a customer review on the brand’s parent site mentions 3–4 hours. What wearers do agree on is maceration: caelym found that “after 2 months of letting it sit, it’s improved by a lot”, tfishernecs found “the fig became prominent and the leather smoothed out” after two weeks, and Jmic1 says it “NEEDS to sit for probably a month”. If your new bottle smells sharp in the leather, that is the likely reason.

Good to Know Before You Buy

  • Let it rest. Several Fragrantica reviewers say a fresh bottle reads sharp in the leather and settles after two weeks to two months. Don’t judge it on day one.
  • Elegance, not volume. It is a close, polished scent rather than a room-filler. If you want projection above all, look at Ramad Oriental.
  • Genuinely unisex. Spice and leather on one side, iris and fig on the other; neither wins.
  • Cold-weather construction. Spice and resin get heavy in summer heat, so use a light hand if you wear it warm.

Why Buy Al Noor From Khaleej Scents

Every bottle is genuine Arabiyat Prestige, sourced from authorised distribution. We check every note list against the brand’s own listing and independent sources such as Fragrantica, and we describe performance from what wearers consistently report rather than from our own lab claims — which is why there is no invented hours figure on this page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tap a question to open the answer.

What is Arabiyat Prestige Al Noor a dupe of?
BDK Parfums Gris Charnel. Arabiyat Prestige’s own US listing says Al Noor is inspired by Gris Charnel. Five of Gris Charnel’s seven published notes — cardamom, fig, iris, vetiver and tonka — appear in Al Noor, which adds saffron, leather, patchouli and vanilla. Arabiyat Prestige has no affiliation with BDK Parfums.
How close is Al Noor to Gris Charnel?
Close in idea, darker in execution. One Fragrantica reviewer rates it 90% similar to the Gris Charnel Extrait; another calls it a darker, sexier Gris Charnel; a third found it closer to Tom Ford Ombre Leather. The leather and missing sandalwood are the main differences. We grade the comparison B+.
How long does Al Noor last?
Reports vary too much to quote one honest figure: one reviewer reports over 10 hours on clothes, another around 3–4 hours. Wearers do agree that it improves after a few weeks of resting the bottle. The leather, tonka and patchouli base is the long-lasting part.
Why does my new bottle of Al Noor smell sharp?
Several Fragrantica reviewers report that the leather reads harsh in a fresh bottle and smooths out after two weeks to two months. Keep it somewhere cool and dark, spray it a few times, and try it again before deciding.
Is Al Noor unisex?
Yes. It is sold as unisex and wears that way: spice and leather read traditionally masculine, iris and fig traditionally feminine, and the balance holds.
Al Noor vs Ramad Oriental — which should I choose?
Al Noor is quieter and creamier: powdery iris, fig and soft leather. Ramad Oriental is louder and more resinous: saffron, cumin, frankincense and amber. Choose Al Noor for polish and Ramad Oriental for presence.
How much is Al Noor in the UK?
£39.99 for the 100ml Eau de Parfum at Khaleej Scents, with free UK delivery on every order.
