Every autumn the same question comes round: which warm vanilla actually smells expensive? Khadlaj Island Vanilla Dunes has become one of the most-asked-about answers — a spiced, creamy vanilla with cinnamon and cardamom on top, orange blossom and guaiac in the middle and a praline-amber base that clings to scarves.
It is the 2025 winter member of Khadlaj’s Island family, and at Extrait de Parfum strength it is also the richest. Khadlaj does not claim an inspiration, but wearers compare it constantly to Parfums de Marly Althaïr (and to French Avenue Liquid Brun, itself an Althaïr-style scent). The Vanilla Dunes Pyramid — and One Note Conflict
Shown below is Fragrantica’s pyramid, which matches what most wearers describe. Khadlaj’s own listing differs: it gives lavender, bergamot, cardamom on top, orange blossom, guaiac wood, dry amber in the heart and vanilla, praline, amber in the base — with no cinnamon, although wearers widely report cinnamon.
Vanilla arrives immediately, warmed by cinnamon and cardamom, with bergamot giving just enough lift to stop the opening feeling heavy. This is the part most reviewers link to Althaïr.
Orange blossom brings a soft, honeyed floral glow; guaiac wood adds a gentle smokiness that keeps the sweetness grown-up. Some wearers find the orange blossom closer to the original here.
The cosy part. Praline and amber turn it creamy and enveloping, and musk lets it sit close to skin and cling to knitwear for hours.

What wearers say. This one genuinely divides people, which is why it sits at B+. On Fragrantica, AmberAccord says it “captures that same opening almost perfectly”; Leobey finds it “smoother, more balanced”; Mr_hello1 feels the orange blossom is “closer to the OG, rich and refined”. Others find the cinnamon louder and the overall result sweeter and more floral. It is also frequently compared to French Avenue Liquid Brun, with reviewer _3than preferring Vanilla Dunes and saying it projects and lasts longer.

Performance — What Wearers Report
Not our lab numbers. Fragrantica wearers consistently report long wear: _3than says it has “been on my skin for 11 hours”, DragoWhiffs reports 11 hours on skin and far longer on clothing, and 365cologne gets about six hours on skin and seven on clothes. Projection is typically moderate to strong for the first one to three hours, then it settles into a warm cloud. Two sprays is plenty.

- It is sweet. Vanilla, praline and cinnamon lead. If you want a drier, woodier vanilla, Althaïr itself or Bujairami Legacy may suit you better.
- A cold-weather scent. Autumn and winter evenings are its home; in summer heat it can feel cloying.
- The notes on the box may differ from what you smell. Khadlaj lists lavender and no cinnamon; most wearers report cinnamon. We show both so there are no surprises.
